TRIGUN MAXIMUM VOLUME 5 Chapter 1
FLASHBACK:
Establishing shot: a city street full of activity
Vash's POV: He buys apples from an old lady (you can see his gloves)
Regular POV: A kid knees Vash in the face all Muay Thai-like
Everyone seems happy and busy.
Vash gets scolded by children
An old guy knocks his baby carriage over and his stuff falls out.
The head kid orders everyone to help him
A woman hitting a pan with a ladle pulls Vash away from the kids and back to work.
BACK TO PRESENT...
Vash is leaning against a wall crying and freaking out
All his memories of July are coming back
Still remembering, he's working in a restaurant, waiting for Count Revenant
Everyone in the city loves Vash
PRESENT: VASH STARTS FREAKING OUT FOR REAL!!!!
His eyes go white...angel arm approaching...
He begins to fall backwards...
but catches himself...
Vash forcefully slams his foot down, catching himself just in time
(Some scanlations have this 2-page spread UPSIDE DOWN, so it looks like Vash is falling...According to the DH print, this is not the case.)
He stands still, not moving forward...
But thinks of Meryl, and finds his resolve to press forward...
Establishing shot: The roof of the tall central building in the complex
Zazie looks at the city through a broken window. It has gotten quiet...
Meryl is behind him...
Zazie walks away from Meryl
and stops.
Zazie opens his mouth REAL WIDE AND SCARY-LIKE
and a SWARM of insects flies out of his mouth!!!
Zazie might or might not be communicating with Legato at this point...
Suddenly, something very bad happens...
Zazie looks up...
The bugs are obliterated
Zazie pulls a gun...
but...
Something comes at Meryl and blood sprays into her cage.
She sees it's...
Zazie's arm...still holding the gun
Zazie's torso is sheered off from his right hip to his neck
A moment later, his guts fall out of his body cavity
Hoppard is approaching Zazie...
AND TOTALLY LANDS ON HIM!
Midvalley has been cancelling out the sounds with his sax so Zazie couldn't sense them sneaking up...
A sandworm flips out...
Midvalley and Hoppard knew Zazie was feeding information to someone else...
BUT NOT ANYMORE! 0_o
Hoppard lands near Midvalley and comments on Midvalley's technique as he pulls Zazie's other arm off of his neck and flings it.

MEANWHILE, BACK IN THE CAGE...
Meryl is freaking out and...I think...defiant?
Chapter 2
FLASHBACK
Establishing shot: Ground view in a bar.
People look down with derision, pity, or don't look at all.
People leave abruptly.
Hoppard uses a staff to give money to the bartender for milk.
The bartender looks down
And tells Hoppard nextime he should use the back door (SO SAD!!!)
A blindfolded girl sits alone in a chair.
Hoppard wheels down an alley
?! His door...
IS UNLOCKED!
Hoppard FLIES off his scate-board!
A man is touching the girl, whose chair is now knocked over!
The man falls down as Hoppard comes down on him.
Hoppard ELBOWS HIM IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD!
The guy's unconscious.
The girl is cowering.
The guy recovers and gives Hoppard a piece of paper.
He leaves Hoppard and the girl alone.
Hoppard sits in front of her and CAREFULLY brushes her hair away from her ear.
Then he puts his hands to his head...
PRESENT: a vial with a needle...
Machinery injects the liquid into Hoppard's neck.
HE'S READY!
Hoppard waits as Vash approaches...
Vash can't hear him, though...
Because Midvalley is doing his thing...cancelling out sound and whatnot...
But Midvalley has some company approaching...WOLFWOOD!
Wolfwood still can't see, and seems unaware of Midvalley's position due to Midvalley's sax...
Wolfwood blindly makes his way towards Midvalley...
Vash gets to the top of some stairs.
And sees Meryl!
She yells that it's a trap
But he continues to walk up the stairs and towards Meryl
Hoppard is waiting...
He gets ready...
Wolfwood approaches...
Midvalley keeps playing...
Hoppard is getting anxious...
VASH IS RIGHT THERE!
Wolfwood walks straight towards Midvalley, raising his Cross Punisher as he approaches.
Midvalley plays as Wolfwood almost reaches him...
Suddenly, HOPPARD ATTACKS!!!
HE'S RUSHING TOWARDS VASH FROM BEHIND, AND VASH HAS NOOOOO CLUE!!!
Wolfwood and Midvalley are almost face to face!
Meryl can see Hoppard as he speeds towards Vash, who is completely unawares...
A PROJECTILE OBJECT...
RUSHES TOWARDS MIDVALLEY!
!!!
MILLY'S SHOOTING AT MIDVALLEY LIKE CRAZY!!!
As Midvalley dodges Milly's attack,
he momentarily stops playing,
AND SOUND SUDDENLY RETURNS!!!
Hoppard hears the noise...
but he is PRACTICALLY ON TOP OF VASH!
Vash turns at the LAST POSSIBLE SECOND
and CAN'T DODGE! HE TOTALLY GETS HIT!
Hoppard and Vash CRASH INTO THE WALL!!!
MIDVALLEY BOUNDS TOWARDS WOLFWOOD, WHO HAS OPEN FIRE ON MIDVALLEY!
Midvalley pushes the Cross Punisher's barrel,
alerting Wolfwood to Midvalley's position
Midvalley SWINGS his sax upward
as Wolfwood pulls out a pistol
The body tube and mouthpipe of Midvalley's saxophone have expanded and converted into a gun, and it's AIMED AT WOLFWOOD'S HEAD!
But Wolfwood is holding a gun TO MIDVALLEY'S HEAD!
CATCH 22!!!
Wolfwood's smiling.
Midvalley is not and tells Wolfwood this will cost Wolfwood "more than his life..."
Chapter 3
Midvalley and Wolfwood Conversing
Milly shows up!
Midvalley sees an opportunity...
Wolfwood is at a disadvantage now...
BUT HE TOTALLY OPENS FIRE!
AT THE SAME TIME MIDVALLEY DOES.
Wolfwood has lunged to the left...
as Midvalley keeps firing
The gunfire stops, Wolfwood has thrown his Cross behind him...
He hears...
As Milly fires another round at Midvalley! (whose saxophone has transformed back into a playable instrument)
Midvalley puts the sax up to his mouth...
AND CAUSES AN EXPLOSION RIGHT IN FRONT OF WOLFWOOD!!!
Wolfwood and Milly are alright,
but Midvalley is GONE.
Midvalley is somewhere inside the building.
He thinks back to the fight...
and notes how Wolfwood protected Milly even though he couldn't see...
Midvalley walks through the building
He looks up and stops.
There is an explosive device on the wall.
He thinks of Hoppard.
Scene change: An elevator cage looks mangled
Hoppard has crashed into the wall above the elevator cage...
He seems to be regaining consciousness...or maybe just recovering from the force of the impact...
An elevator cable begins to fray...
The elevator shifts, startling Meryl
Hoppard isn't sure if he got Vash
But from underneath his shield, a long white feather emerges...
Vash WAS HIT BY HOPPARD and has become engulfed in feathers.
Hoppard looks at the feather, thinks ANGEL ARM, and freaks out, realizing this could be another FIFTH MOON INCIDENT!
He FIRES HIS SHIELD, effectively GRINDING VASH INTO THE TOP OF THE ELEVATOR CAGE
The elevator cable can't take it anymore.
Meryl cowers as the cable disintegrates
SHOCK!
The elevator CRASHES DOWNWARDS!
Meryl SCREAMS!
Hoppard is MANIACAL!
Vash is COMPLETELY SQUISHED!
His hand reaches out...
And feathers sprout from it.
Feathers come from EVERYWHERE, reaching upwards toward Hoppard and downwards into the elevator
Vash starts to lose it.
A feather snakes its way toward Hoppard...
touching his face...
AND SUDDENLY HE IS TRANSPORTED INTO VASH'S MEMORIES!
Hoppard sees...Knives...
Knives greets Vash.
They're in a building in July.
Vash is pointing a gun at Knives...who looks less than amused...
Knives fires up his arm...
ATTACKS!
and suddenly VASH IS ON THE FLOOR WRITHING IN PAIN!
Knives looks over him, his hand transformed...INTO A BLADE!
Hoppard sees as Knives walks down a dark stairway.
Behind heavy doors...
An injection...
Knives observes.
Vash is strapped onto a table, his left arm strapped down, his lower body completely confined. There are 6 syringes in his arm and several electrodes stuck to his skin. He's hooked up to at least 3 IV drips, and a computer is monitoring his reactions.
Charles Xavier...I mean...the doctor reports his findings to Knives...
The doctor looks down as Knives assesses the situation.
BACK TO THE PRESENT:
Feathers start flooding into the elevator cage.
A feather lands on Meryl's head.
She sees a flashback of Vash's arm as he transforms for the first time
Vash freaks out!
Knives looks on...there is a light eminating from his hand.
He's smiling at Vash's reaction, at his confusion, at his lack of control (what a jerk)
Knives' arm is beginning to transform.
Knives shows off.
Vash flips out.
Knives is in control, while vash's arm grows.
His arm becomes so heavy, he can't lift it. He drops to his knees, supporting himself on his left hand.
Knives approaches Vash, bending over and looking at him eye to eye.
Vash tries to resist the transformation.
Vash pulls out his gun and aims with his shaking left hand.
He points the gun straight at Knives' face.
Knives puts his left hand on Vash's face.
Knives is on his knees in front of Vash
From Vash's POV, demons are clawing through as he transforms.
Vash is about to go off, but with his left hand,
he GRABS KNIVES BY THE COLLAR
Vash remembers the people from July, Doc, Luida, Brad, and Jessica, a young Leonov...
Knives is not amused.
He begins to transform as he forces Vash's head down to the floor.
Vash is aware.
He's sprouted what looks like entire wings. He brings his right hand up...
Knives realizes that Vash has aimed his arm directly at Knives.
Vash's eyes are completely blank.
EXPLOSION!
Everyone in July gets caught up in the immense release of power.
Hoppard sees the blind girl in her room being consumed by light.
Chapter 4
Vash makes his way through the rubble of July, his eyes WIDE.
MEANWHILE, BACK IN THE PRESENT, THE TRIO IS STILL FALLING DOWN THE ELEVATOR SHAFT!
Meryl is engulfed in feathers.
She sees Vash as a child,
Him screaming and holding a gun.
getting shot, hovering over someone else who has been shot.
Meryl watches as Vash blows July away. (NOW she knows his entire inegmatic past...and she's all DO NOT WANT.)
Hoppard is in agony.
Midvalley arrives and sees the elevator shaft empty.
Somewhere else in the building, there's an explosive rigged on the wall.
Hoppard pulls out a detonator...
AND DETONATES!
The building starts to EXPLODE!!!
The building starts to fall apart.
Wolfwood pulls a gun on Milly, trying to get her to run away,
but she won't.
The falling debris...
is consumed by light.
Milly gasps as
a HUGE BALL OF LIGHT APPEARS.
Rubble...
smoke...
LIGHT!!!
Light shines on the buildings...
and onto the ground...
Hoppard lies on the ground,
and opens his eyes...
Someone stands over him...
A gun is lowered to his head.
It's Midvalley.
Midvalley is here to keep Hoppard from telling anyone of his defection.
Midvalley is about to shoot...but suddenly...
SWINGS HIS ARM BACKWARDS, AIMING BEHIND HIM.
Another gun is pointing in his direction...
WOLFWOOD!
Wolfwood is regaining his sight.
As Wolfwood and Midvalley point guns at each other ass...
One feather pokes through the rubble...
then a WHOLE WING!
It's quite large and surprising...
The stand-off persists.
Suddenly, the wing begins to move!
Something beyond Midvalley...
A dark shadowy figure LEAPS over Midvalley.
A wheel...
A MOTORCYCLE CRASHES DOWN!
LEGATO?!?!
Legato is being held by his babysitter on a MOTORCYCLE!
Legato looks CRAZY!
Midvalley finds Legato's presence to be very disadvantagious.
Legato has come to retrieve Midvalley.
Midvalley lowers his gun...
He looks at Legato.
He turns his head and looks at Wolfwood.
Midvalley grits his teeth.
HE THROWS HIS GUN DOWN AND AIMS HIS SAX STRAIGHT AT LEGATO!
But he just...isn't...quite...fast enough.
Hoppard!
HOPPARD HAS SHOT MIDVALLEY THROUGH THE CHEST...
LEGATO MADE HIM DO IT!
Legato smiles...
as blood escapes from Midvalley's body.
Chapter 5
Midvalley looks down.
Hoppard is still involuntarily shooting Midvalley.
Midvalley falls backwards.
The front tire of the motorcycle comes up...
AND SLAMS DOWN ON MIDVALLEY'S TORSO!!!
Legato...is not pleased...by Midvalley's lack of loyalty.
Hoppard screams!
The wing reacts...
by CATCHING and HOLDING the MOTORCYCLE!
Wolfwood swings his gun around to point at HOPPARD!
WHO IS INVOLUNTARILY POINTING HIS GUN AT WOLFWOOD!
The shot pulls back to show everyone's position.
The wheel is caught...
From under all the feathers, Vash attempts to emerge.
Legato is righteously furious at Midvalley's betrayal!
Legato turns his attention to Wolfwood.
Vash still has a hold on the motorcycle's front wheel.
Legato cries as he looks at Wolfwood. (This might have something to do with the fact that Knives is tolerating a traitor while Legato was left out of the loop AND has been excessively loyal since the beginning.)
Hoppard is like, "LEGATO HOW DID YOU KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON?!?!
Legato tells him he found out about the plan from Zazie.
Hoppard: "WE KILLED ZAZIE!"
Suddenly a girl appears surrounded by butterflies, her hand extended.
Hoppard and Wolfwood suddenly have the realization that this girl...IS ZAZIE!
Wolfwood pulls another gun and aims it at Zazie.
Zazie points a gun at Wolfwood.
Hoppard realizes that Legato knew what was going on the whole time...
Legato stops smiling.
He focuses on the feathers holding the motorcycle.
Hoppard struggles...
He can...almost...move...his hand...
Wolfwood watches as Hoppard fights against Legato.
Wolfwood looks at Vash, then the tire, then Legato...
Wolfwood realizes that keeping Vash under control is using all of Legato's focus.
Hoppard manages to pull his arm up, pointing his gun straight at Legato's HEAD!
Suddenly...another gun is raised!
And points it at HOPPARD!
It's Zazie!
Now we have Wolfwood aiming at Legato and Zazie.
Zazie's guns are pointed at Wolfwood and Hoppard.
Hoppard is pointing at Legato,
and Legato is trying to control both Vash AND Hopaprd.
And...everyone...is hoping that VASH WON'T GO OFF!
Hoppard can't move his finger, so he can't shoot Legato.
An aerial shot of the scene.
A GUN!
Meryl emerges from Vash's feathers and aims Zazie's old revolver...
AND FIRES!
AT LEGATO'S HEAD, but seems to miss...
Hoppard is surprised!
His gun is still aimed.
Zazie looks down...
Wolfwood is looking forward...
AS HOPPARD TOTALLY SHOOTS LEGATO IN THE FACE!!!
WOLFWOOD FIRES!
ZAZIE SHOOTS HOPPARD IN THE NECK and fires towards WOLFWOOD,
But she's HIT IN THE THIGH by one of Wolfwood's bullets.
Zazie falls backwards...
as does Legato...
Zazie fires as she falls...
hitting Wolfwood in the left shoulder as spent rounds fall from his gun
Zazie lands on the ground...
The back tire spins...
and THE BIKE GOES FORWARD AS LEGATO AND THE BABYSITTER JUMP AWAY!
The motorcycle ends up flipping over.
Legato's babysitter lands.
Vash is still white-eyed.
Meryl is ok.
HOppard is still alive.
Zazie is on the ground,
Wolfwood is...Wolfwood...
Legato looks down...
at Hoppard...
Half of Legato's FACE has been shot off!
Hoppard stares.
Meryl SCREAMS
as Midvalley's LIFELESS BODY RISES!
The upper half of Midvalley's torso is crushed and hanging backwards, but he's still holding a gun...and points it at HOPPARD!
Meryl and Vash react at the same time!
Midvalley's body is over Hoppard.
Vash's wing and the babysitter's hand COLLIDE IN A BRIGHT LIGHT!
Legato is smirking until he realizes...
THAT VASH IS ABOUT TO GO OFF!!! And his arm is POINTED AT LEGATO!
Vash's angel arm is fully formed!
Meryl's pinned under him!
Vash's eyes are still completely white.
Wolfwood recognizes the gravity of the situation...
Meryl screams.
Legato looks sobered.
Hoppard looks up.
and BOOOOM!
A HUGE NAIL goes through the babysitter's hand and Vash's angel arm!
Vash and Wolfwood look at it.
Chapter 6
I think Vash is coming back to his senses...this might be him in his mind...
The nail IMPAILS the babysitter and Vash!
The babysitter screams...
Vash's eyes go from blank white...
back to normal as he looks up and sees...
A GIANT FLYING SHIP!
A huge boxy weapoin has been deployed.
The woman from before looks miffed.
She stands on a platform on the airship.
Establishing shot: the airship is above the tall central building.
Vash seems to go out of control as Meryl covers her head below him.
Wolfwood knows the situation is NOT GOOD.
Meryl sees Wolfwood, and she's freaking out.
Her cape also appears to be stuck under a flipping out vash.
EXPLOSION!
WOLFWOOD GOES FLYING!
He hits the ground hard.
Meryl guards her face.
A young sad vash walks alone.
Then JULY!
On the top of a column, Vash cries out in despair...
Legato is flung onto his back.
He looks up...and he's totally crazy-looking,
and sees the ship and the woman who is holding a giant weapon...
But he is still controlling Midvalley.
Hoppard's on the ground
Midvalley's hand pulls the trigger...
Vash has a moment...
as he thinks back to Knives the first time Vash's angel arm went off...
Demons...from his shoulder.
He tears into them with his fingers.
Electricity crackle.
Meryl sees what's going on...
and she's startled when Vash gets to his feet
and tries to regain control!
Hoppard screams
Meryl and Wolfwood look on disbelievingly?
Blood splashes onto Vash's face...
as he claws and rips out the demons in his arm.
Knives suddenly appears and begins to speak to Vash.
Vash continues to try to get a hold of his arm.
Vash pictures the residents of July in his mind...
their hands,
And how they accepted him.
VASH SHIELDS HOPPARD AS MIDVALLEY'S CORPSE OPENS FIRE!!!
Feathers fall around Vash as he gets shot.
Hoppard looks up at him wearily.
Legato looks SHOCKED!
Midvalley's gun...KEEPS FIRING INTO VASH!
Legato is CRAZED!
He summons a HUGE KNIFE OUT FROM THE BABYSITTER'S ARM!
and...AIMS AT THE ALMOST NORMAL VASH!
But right at that moment, A HUGE NAIL IMPALES THE BABYSITTER'S HEAD!
Legato suddenly realizes what he was about to do and comes to his senses.
Vash is back in control.
Hoppard is still alive.
Zazie is still observing.
Wolfwood and Meryl see...
THE WOMAN FROM THE AIRSHIP...
except...it's NOT A WOMAN!
IT'S A TRANSVESTITE!
and s/he has come to take LEGATO BACK TO KNIVES!!!
Legato looks a little uneasy.
Wolfwood recognizes the name...
GHG 13!!
ELANDIRA the CRIMSON NAIL!
The babysitter has been impaled with no fewer than 17 giant nails.
Elandira steps on a nail...
and the babysitter screams in agony...
Elandira forces the nail THROUGH THE BABYSITTER'S FOOT AND DEEPLY INTO THE GROUND!
Elandira thinks back to her conversation with Knives...
Knives doesn't want to kill Vash...
HE JUST WANTS TO KILL ALL VASH'S FRIENDS!!!
Knives has sent Elandira to retrieve Legato.
Back to present.
Elandira aims her weapon...AND SHOOTS!
RIGHT THROUGH LEGATO'S SARCOPHAGUS!
Elandira boards her ship.
Legato and HALF OF THE BABYSITTER are being lifted with chains up tot he ship.
Elandira antagonizes Our Overly-Taxed Heroes.
After seeing all she has about Vash, she realizes that Knives really can destroy all of humanity on Gunsmoke.
Wolfwood talks to Elandira.
The ship floats above the city...people look up.
and watch it fly past.
Back to Vash...He's lying near Hoppard, collapsed.
Vash stirs.
He lifts himself up.
He looks over at Hoppard and sees that he's about to die.
Hoppard curses Vash with his dying breath.
Hoppard sees the blind girl smiling.
He smiles...
and dies.
Vash gently takes Hoppard's hand in his and holds it.
Meryl and Wolfwood approach cautiously.
Meryl notes that his arm (and his COAT!)
is back to normal...
A white feather falls down...
ESTABLISHING SHOT: somewhere in the city.
A view of the city from one of the surrounding cliffs.
HAPPY MILLY WITH A BANDAGED HEAD!
She scares the doctor, (this appears to be the same doctor who treated Vash and Wolfwood before) and he falls back into the nurse, who throws up a tray of medicine and syringes.
Meryl's happy!
Meryl hugs Milly! Meryl doesn't even notice the syringe stuck in her head!
Wolfwood looks on...a little horrified...
Zazie limps away!
She stumbles into her room and tries to find a disguise.
Somewhere Establishing shot: outside.
Sunset. Vash and Wolfwood stand next to two graves.
Vash is praying over the graves of Hoppard and Midvalley.
Wolfwood chides him as he smokes a cigarette and holds a rosary with the same hand.
Wolfwood thinks about the recent events.
He thinks about Midvalley...
Vash and Wolfwood go back to town and Vash puts Wolfwood to work cleaning up the destruction they caused.
