a flashback of zazie telling meryl that vash was a plant
a flashback of vash losing it
meryl wakes up screaming
meryl goes downstairs and has a quick, rare conversation with wolfwood. he tells her to take milly and leave
the town sheriff doesn't like vash
frank marlon's son makes an appearance as a gunsmith. he agrees to fix vash's gun, which further pisses off the sheriff
meryl reminisces about the first time she shot a gun
the yinyang gang makes their entrance
vash is practicing with the loner gun marlon gave him
vash is consistently shooting thousands of bullets through non-vital areas of the target
the sheriff punches him because he doesn't like him, then proceeds to blow the head off the target
brandon marlon chides the sheriff, telling him he'll never make a gun for him.
an explosion in town distracts the sheriff
a big bell-shaped thing is in the middle of the street
milly and meryl look on helplessly
the sheriff approaches, when ALL OF THE SUDDEN A TON OF GUYS POP OUT FROM UNDER THE SAND!
the sheriff gets grabbed by the head
milly and meryl start freaking out
meryl sees a missile approaching the gang...
but it's a dud...
VASH LEAPS OUT MANIACALLY AND STARTS KICKING ASS (literally)
he dodges bullets and kicks the legs out of one of his attackers
he confronts the bad guy
meryl wonders if he'll be able to do anything now that his memory is back
she starts to cry and screams his name
the big guy starts chunking dynomite at vash
vash shoots the fuses off of every single one
they fall harmlessly to the ground
the sheriff finally realizes the err of his ways
marlon shows up and tosses vash his old gun
vash aims at the bad guy and...
MERYL FREAKS OUT! KABAM!
but...all vash did was knock the badguy over...
and she realizes that he's more determined now than ever
wolfwood gets pissed at vash because he touched wolfwood's cross punisher
chap 2 (and one of the best pics of wolfwood EVAR)
flashback/dream: a hand (note the cross cuff link) covered in blood reaches out, telling wolfwood he'll regret his actions
wolfwood rationalizes his actions by telling himself the kids at the orphanage will be ok...
but he turns to see knives, elandira, and legato at the orphanage. knives is forming his angelarm
elandira tells wolfwood this was the way it was going to be all along
wolfwood bangs table/wakes up with a start. he's in a bar. it's closing time.
bartender tells wolfwood the tables are very sturdy
wolfwood leaves with the undrunk bottle of whiskey. he senses a presence
zazie brings a message from knives: keep up the good work
wolfwood tells him to scram. zazie is impressed that wolfwood can sense exactly where he is
zazie makes a crack that wolfwood is the same as legato...wolfwood doesn't take kindly to the remark
wolfwood thinks about knives. knives really doesn't care about any humans at all. all he cares about is getting vash
flashback - after the fifth moon incident. a little borded up shack.
he pulls out his gun and weaves through iv tubing, the tubes are running into the floor
wolfwood stands above the hole and he points his gun at an indisposed knives...
...but he couldn't shoot him.
wolfwood continues to contemplate deep, dark thoughts as a voice from above calls at him
vash happily makes fun of him for being out so late
cut to the desert. some remants of the yinyang gang have highjacked a military transport vehicle
back to vash and wolfwood. wolfwood looks at vash's back as vash hangs his legs over the edge of the building
vash tells wolfwood that he's waiting to make sure the yinyang gang is properly secured before he goes to bed.
wolfwood questions his real motives as he...
pulls a gun out of his jacket and aims at vash from behind. vash has a very, very sad look on his face.
a shot of wolfwood, a shot of the gun pointed at vash's back, a shot of wolfwood.
vash turns around and looks at wolfwood with a strange, straightfoward expression. you get the feeling he knows...
but he just asks wolfwood "what's up?"
wolfwood looks defeated. he tells vash to keep his nose out of other people's business. he mentions knives.
the transport vehicle approaches...and...BAD GUYS POP OUT!
vash and wolfwood see an explosion
wolfwood starts to say something, but vash has already run off in the direction of the explosion
the bad guys approach, but vash is standing in the middle of the road.
the bad guys recognise him.
vash dodges out of the way of the vehicle just in time, he takes aim at the back of the vehicle,
but a baddie shows up just behind him
the baddie chunks painful looking instruments of pain at vash, but...
out of the bar, a HUGE TABLE COMES ROLLING TOWARDS HIM AT TOP SPEED!
the table takes the brunt of the weapons and breaks into smithereens
wolfwood lunges in to block vash from the table debris with his cross punisher
a funny shot of the bartender freaking out and looking at a dotted outline where his table should have been
vash is still aiming at the truck with his gun, but he doesn't have enough power to stop it
wolfwood is aiming at a single baddie, but he's got too much power to aim properly
the realize! and...
SPIN AROUND, each changing their target in perfect unison
vash aims at the baddie, wolfwood aims at the truck
they fire
targets down.
they both relax, but wolfwood suddenly gets anxious at exposing his back to vash. he turns around as quick as he can to see vash's shooting hand...
squarely on his knee while he takes a breather...
vash walks away, his back completely exposed, completely non-threatening, and completely vulnerable.
wolfwood feels like an ass, but also realizes he's underestimating vash
vash is confused.
the injured sheriff cries when he sees the damage from the night before.
one of our boys thinks they can get free food out of this
milly wakes up bright and early, totally refreshed, while meryl looks like a cat that got stuck in an electric outlet
chap 3
legato talks about himself, vash, and the ghg's. he says he took it upon himself to use the ghg's to torture and kill vash for what he did to knives.
he had originally meant to have fun killing vash, but vash had survived longer than anyone else he had confronted
and when vash showed up at jeneora rock, legato realized that vash stood in between legato and knives.
and suddenly legato's game got a lot more serious to him.
elandira chides legato for his stupidity
she takes the cup she's drinking out of and FLINGS the liquid in legato's face
legato calls elandira trash. there's clearly bad blood between these two.
legato starts in on his "more devoted than thou" speech and elandira tells him to shut it.
elandira has to meet the two new assassins and give them legato coins: TRI-P of DEATH and DOUBLE FANG
cut to exterior shot of where they are. they're in an old ship that's crashed into the ground.
a boy and a guy with huge tusks approach on a motorcycle
they encounter a gate which is manned by a creepy old guy and a bunch of other guys with guns
this rag-tag team of misfits is a creepy bunch that has decided to follow knives even though knives doesn't acknowledge their existence or devotion (perhaps a parallel to knives' relationship w/ the ghg's??? i don't know...i'm just assuming)
the cute little boy pulls a vial off a strap across his chest and inserts the end into a collar on his neck
INSTANTLY HE LOOKS LIKE ARNOLD SCHWARTSHWATEVERHISHAMEISE
the gate keepers look on, taken aback
veins are popping out of the boy's face and he's drooling
cut to elandira, the assassins are late.
legato tells elandira a bit about the infrastructure of the eye of michael and their relationship to the ghg's
he tells elandira that these two assasins are the best in the world.
cut to an exterior shot - the front gate is ruined and all the gatekeepers are dead.
the two approach the fallen ship unhindered
they ride the motorcycle clear into the ship
the boy notices...something...
he feels like someone is watching them...
as the boy is scanning the darkness, the big guy is suddenly swiped off the motorcycle
the boy looks back to see that the place where his buddy was is empty
the bike heads straight for a wall
the boy jumps off the bike just in time
he looks around frantically
A SKULL-WEARING FREAK APPEARS BEHIND THE BOY!!!
massive ass-kickery ensues
cut to legato and elandira as someone approaches.
a man in a wheelchair (yes, that's a wheelchair...notice the spikes on the wheels for off-roading purposes...) with a bunch of lackies rolls in
legato says some people came in with them. the old guy says double-fang took care of it. (sidenote, the name "double fang" and "tri-p of death" seem to be a little misleading. i think they both refer to the skull-guy, who you'll get to know in later chapters...)
double-fang comes in, dragging the "joe tooth" and the boy by the neck. they are clearly dead
legato gives them the last two coins
chap 4
knives is walking through a crowded city with elandira and dr. conrad following behind
conrad considers how horrible it must be for knives to be in a city with other humans
conrad flashback - he's in a big house with windows and plants
he notices someone inside
he sees knives...and RECOGNIZES HIM as a little boy from before the great fall
he attempts to embrace knives, but knives pushes him back and proceeds to tower over conrad
knives reveals that conrad is also count revnant vasquez (or revelant, or buskes or whatever)
conrad can't believe this man is the same as that little boy.
present - the three enter a gated area
knives looks serious, two bodies lie dead on the ground (telepathic death? i dunno)
conrad looks on.
they enter the facility, rows of plant bulbs are plugged in
there are lumps in tubes.
there's a shot of workers with pitchforks scooping lumps of something out of one end of a bulb
knives tells them to hurry
flashback - conrad runs tests on knives, observes his angel arm, contemplates his contribution to the annihilation of the human race
present - a glob of plant angel hangs suspended in a bulb
knives looks up at said glob
conrad looks on
a worker spots them
he approaches them, but with one look, knives makes his legs stop working
the plant worker tries to rationalize the use of the plants
the tech says they're starting "the last run"
conrad begs knives to leave, but knives won't budge
the last run begins
the plant angel screams in agony, a shot of its "gate"
the gate swells, ripping the angel in half
the angel's hair goes from blonde/black to completely black
its used corpse falls against the bulb in a black splat
knives...is...shocked...
conrad cowers
knives summons a gigantic angel arm and kills everyone in town
conrad looks at knives as he pants, his angel arm crumbling around him
knives has a shock of black hair now.
conrad explains that his energy has begin to run low and he's just like the plant in the bulb
knives asks elandira if vash's hair has begun to darken. she tells him it has
knives looks...contemplative...then...
TOTALLY SKEWERS CONRAD!
he's completely full of rage as he screams
...somewhere in the desert...vash feels knives' presence...
chap 5
an old lady hires a bounty hunter to go after vash
cut to milly - she's teaching a small kid how to paint
she tells the kid if he mixes all the colors together, they'll turn into grey
she watches as she sees vash walk into a church
at the sight of vash, a kid launches himself at vash and catches him in a "mid-air traction crab pinch"
meryl comes up to milly and asks if she's seen vash
she tells meryl he went into the church
they're very concerned about him
vash listens to the surmon
he thinks of jesus, and thinks of his own sins, considers them unforgivable
suddenly, his own wanted poster is flashed before his eyes
a gun is put to the back of his head
exterior - church, vash is being drug out by two guys in hats.
a big guy congraduates them for bringing him out w/o a fight
meryl starts to argue, but the big guy tells her to butt out.
he tells vash this is a personal vendetta
vash looks absolutely stricken by this information
meanwhile, wolfwood is just sitting down to eat a lovely bowl of udon when he hears commotion about the humanoid typhoon
with much regret, he makes his way to the battlefield, leaving his wonderful meal behind
back to vash - milly and meryl are hiding from flying bullets
vash has dodged every bullet, but a liquid is seeping out of his coat
meryl and milly think the worst at first, but it's from...
it's from a broken bottle of liquor.
even wolfwood is concerned.
vash laughs sheepishly and slurps up some of the alcohol on his arm
meryl and milly look concerned^2
the bounty hunter tells vash that since the last attack was so easy for him, that the gloves are coming off
vash looks on with a blank face...easy?
vash wonders if that's really what it looks like, but decides it's better than crying
the radio pops in, everyone pays attention
it reports the mass murder committed by knives earlier that day
wolfwood shouts at vash that they have to leave.
wolfwood unfurls his cross punisher
the big guy starts shooting at vash, he dodges
vash aims with his machine gun and starts shooting at the big guy and his lackies
wolfwood yells at vash for being vash-like
the big guy pulls out more weapons
vash takes down his lackies
the big guy looks on surprised
the big guy fires square at vash
meryl, milly, and wolfwood are scared
the bullet rushes towards him
he can't block it
suddenly, out of his angel arm, a feather comes forth and stops the bullet in mid-air
vash looks slightly horrified?
meryl. freaks. out.
she has a flashback of vash transforming
the bullet falls from the feather and vash starts to shake
the people start to gather around vash, calling him a demon, blaming him for th fifth moon and july
all vash can do is stand their and listen to their accusations
someone chunks a rock at him, it hits vash in the head
wolfwood tells them they're leaving anyway
vash runs to milly who's holding meryl
vash tries to smile, but it looks so fake, milly asks him how he can still look like that
he tells her he doesn't even know how to look anymore
he thanks milly and apologizes
he tries to talk to meryl, but she cowers from his touch
he can't even fake-smile anymore
he apologizes again as he runs away, wolfwood shouting a goodbye as he follows
milly starts to cry as she begins to understand vash and his fake smile
a kid grabs onto an adult with a rock and shouts that vash wouldn't do something like that
vash and wolfwood high-tail it out of there
chap 6
inside a ship, knives looks at several consoles
the information on the hair-darkening affect is classified
he realizes he can't continue on like he has been
he needs another strategy
elandira contemplates the situation...even she is hoping vash can beat knives
vash and wolfwood are in the town knives massacred
a guide asks for more money, wolfwood knocks him senseless
vash sees an image of conrad as knives runs him through with his arm
he looks up to see the dead plant
and he remembers...
tessla...
flashback - the seeds fleet
little vash is floating in 0-gravity
knives finds him
rem is throwing them their first birthday party
REM HAS A FURTHER FLASHBACK - the babies are spit out inside the plant bulb
she gets them, puts them in incubators
she feeds them
she takes care of them
back to present flashback
her smile is sad, vash and knives look a little concerned
cut to - thousands of sleep pods
vash and knives are reading the logs about the sleeping people
they stop at a cute girl and go to her sleep chamber
knives asks if they'll be friends with the humans
vash is apprehensive, he says it will take a lot of effort
knives watches old news footage of wars
people created plants...a shot of a bunch of scientists surrounding a plant...
he knows people aren't all going to be like rem, but he wants them to like him
knives falls asleep
cut to later, rem is startled out of sleep by an alarm
a level-2 emergency has been triggered
she runs past knives and tells him to stay in his room
she tries to fix the problem, but the emergency has reached level-3
at a level-3 emergency, the rest of the crew automatically wakes up
their sleep pods slowly open...
